Brixton Community AI Event #2: Build Day
Brixton Community Build Day
Until recently, building a product took three people: an engineer to write it, a designer to shape it, a product manager to decide what it should be. Marc Andreessen has made the point that those three roles can collapse into one. The engineer can now design. The designer can now ship. The product manager can now build. AI closed the gaps that used to always require hiring. Now, anyone can take on the role of a builder.
Brixton Community Build Day is a half-day build sprint at Impact Brixton (IB). You come with something you want to exist and leave with a version that works.
No technical experience required.
Who it's for
- You run a shop, a salon, a studio, a market stall, and there's a system in your head that would save you ten hours a week
- You're a creative or a freelancer with an idea you've never had the technical help to build
- You're a developer who wants an afternoon to ship something that isn't for a client
If you can explain what you want, you can build it with us at Impact Brixton.
What happens
- 14:00 — Workshop. Gerald Vanderpuye, founder of Impact Brixton, runs a 90-minute session on the marketing and product tools that let one person do the work of three.
- 15:45 — Build. You spread out across Impact Brixton's coworking space and make the thing. IB hosts who have actually shipped something will circulate to help get you unstuck.
- 17:00 — Stop, reflect, discuss. The bar's open if you want to carry on over a drink.
And then it keeps going
Brixton Community Build Day is the front door. What you start here, you keep building, and then on Friday 28 August we come back for a demo day, where entries are judged and finalists present live. That demo slot is a free platform for your business in front of a room of Brixton people.
The bigger idea
This is the second event in the Brixton Community series. Our position from the start: Brixton shouldn't have AI done to it. The value AI creates should flow back to real people, not out of them. The most direct way to make that true is to enable individuals to build.
Whether you're excited about AI or deeply sceptical of it, you're welcome. Come see what it's about and build something on your own terms.
The practical bit
- When Friday 14 August, 14:00–17:00, bar open after
- Where Impact Brixton, 17a Electric Lane, London SW9 8LA
- Cost Free to attend
